Musings (somewhat Angst)
So I look in the mirror tonight, observing where the air-conditioner slammed into my mouth on its way out the window, and suddenly wonder upon the meaning of life.

Maybe I shouldn't have gone outside to get the air conditioner out of the window, but it seemed like a good idea at the time...except for those voices in the back of my head saying: 'if you don't go at this with a plan, you're going to get hurt.'

Those are generally good voices, and I have learned my lesson.

Lately things seem good. ^.^ We have 'moved in' to the new (old) house that used to belong to my grandmother, and though my mom is very slow at getting things OUT of the house, we've got space to live and work, its warm, its bug-less, and its generally free. I've been filling out job applications today, and doing major convention planning (collecting info, taking down dates, filling out paperwork, and making hotel reservations) for the course of the next year. With a bit of luck, we can make some money doing Artist Alley around the country. Without luck, I'll just be working some bland job like usual. But at least I've got my hobbies. ^.^

Ryn is not so pleased about the house. It is, honestly, dirty and grimy and floor tiles are coming up and there is this terrible carpeting and the sink is a wreck, and there are windows everywhere. We're surviving, but so much has to change, and we just don't have the money for the changes right now.

I really, really...have so much that I want to do. I want to make great costumes, as always, and I'm so pleased about some of the projects I'll get to work on and the people who I'm working with. Even more pleasing is that I've found a new skit partner, so I can fulfill some of my lifelong dreams of making great performances, even if the audience is a crazy bunch of anime geeks. I guess the audience doesn't always matter...its DOING it that I really, really love. I'm looking forward to making art that we can take to conventions, getting to exercise in our HUGE backyard, getting to WRITE again, and sing again, and dance in the sun (since there are, after all, windows everywhere.) So, in general, things are good.

There are certainly setbacks, though. *sighs* Money is one.
Money is also two, and three, and probably at least half of four. The other half of four is TIME, which, even when I have in spades, I end up with a diamond. Or a heart. Or some other equally useless card, because you can just never really have ENOUGH time to do everything you want to do.

Which is a problem, even moreso, because right now I have about six people whom my life is revolving around and who I want to devote proper amounts of myself to, except that I just can't find the time to do it. I don't like this fact, not one bit. I hate to not talk to old friends, whom I have so many memories with, and I hate to not talk to knew ones and miss out on memories not yet made. I guess, for right now, I'm just going to have to focus on what is important and get life done, in the hopes that someday all the people I wanna spend time with will be right here beside me (and instead of keeping open ten aim windows while talking to Ryn in the corner and someone on the phone, I can just shout: 'HEY, SO AND SO...WHATS UP?'
And then we can all go out for delicious curry and fried banana ice cream and curl up on the bed and watch...well, something we all agree on. Movies, probably.)

With tea.
And hot cocoa.

Well, I do have a huge backyard. We could add on additions for a loong time and still have plenty of room. Could also add upwards, and also add downwards...
So how 'bout everyone come live here in good ol' St. Louis?
Or at least come visit us. ^.^

To conclude, ah...
Here are the cons I am considering hitting for 2008, and possible costumes for each. If you've got a good con to recommend, PLEASE do, as I'm looking for new ones to try out, and its especially good if there will be friends there. Most of this list is not concrete.

March 21-23 Anime Boston: 100% go! ^.^ This was a surprise, but I'll get to see Elemental and Ryuu and Fev, and maybe some of the east-coast costumers we haven't seen in a LONG time.
Bringing: Ven, Rufus, ?
March 28-30 Anime St.Louis: 60% go. Its right after AB, but its LOCAL so we can show up with what we've got left.
Bringing: ?

May 16-18 Acen: 100% go! Of course I go! This was my first Anime con, and even if I don't always like the way its run, I've got a fondness for it still, inside. I do appreciate their masquerade, too, so I'd like to participate...and I'd love to do our Cardboard Turk skit.
Bringing: Ven, Rufus, HTRoxas?

July 3-6 Anime Expo: 50% go. We want to be there, but it hinges on if I'm able to get an artist alley table, and we need to find a room or room-mate. Don't know what costumes to bring, either. e.e Maybe I need something new?

August 15-17 Anime Iowa: 50% go. Depends on table and room, again.
August 22-24 FanExpo: 70% go. We've got a place to crash and a reason to be there...just need to make sure we've got a table and aren't dead if we go to Iowa beforehand.
August 29-1 Dragoncon: 20% go. Seeing as there are cons the two weekends before this one, I don't think I'm going to be able to pull it off. Its not completely off the potential list, but its looking very unlikely.

September 19-21 Anime Weekend Atlanta: 60% go. I want to get down to Florida to see our friends there, and we don't have anything else happening in September, so this is looking like a win situation. ^.^ Plus its right before NSS at Disney...~

October 10-12 Anime USA: 40% go. I was looking for an October con and this would give us another chance to see some east-coast peoples. ^.^
October 31-2 Youmacon: 100% go. We love Youmacon, and we hope you will be there.

November 21-23 Midwest Fur Fest: 60% go. We're not fur-fanatics by any means, but we have a friend going so it might be fun, plus its localish.

And I think that just about wraps things up.

Lawl FurFest whut. YOU LEFT THAT ONE OUT OF THE LIST WHEN WE TALKED. XD

Dunno if this is still something you want to do, but don't forget about choreographed something if we do the Masq at AX.

*laughing* Its in Chicago. Different crowd, but big Artist Alley. There is a source that says they like gear, and since we sell a lot of gear, it might be worth a shot. It isn't till November, anyhow, and there is NOTHING else happening in November, really (unless you want to fly to Russia or such.) Then again, who knows? *laughs*

I DO want to do something at AX. I've been keeping my eye on the website to see when they're opening masq registration. I want to know who we're getting FOR SURE before I start planning anything...and we also need to know if we're getting a table, and if we're going to have someone available to COVER the table. AX is big money. AX is also big competition. e.e And I need a keyblade. Hell. But it could also be BIG fun...

Permanent for at least the next two years, it seems. You SHOULD come visit, if you ever get the chance to leave Florida. If not, we're going to swing down to Florida in Septemberish and I want to see you when we do.

Hopefully we can meet up at a con, or hell just a normal 'hang out vacation'. Sadly the only con on that list I'm hoping to go to is Dragon con (AWA use to be good, but I heard it went downhill badly) this year.

I -was- going to attempt ACEN, till I found out Jacon was the same weekend (and I work at that one).

U_u

We were gonna come to Jacon till we found it was the same weekend as Acen, so I understand. *grins* If you're gonna be in Florida AROUND AWA we're going to swing down and see everyone (if we're coming so far as Atlanta, we might as well drive a few more hours and hit Orlando,) and that means you, too!

We'll miss you at Dragoncon, but Kim and I will be in California at the same time as expo visiting family, so if anything we can pop by and maybe grab dinner?

We'd -love- to see you at Expo, and if you're in FL around Atlanta we're still coming the rest of the way down before or afterwards. We're gonna make it down there, one way or another!

Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha. You might not want to mention publicly that you're going to a furry convention. People will automatically assume you want to rape animals or some ridiculous bullshit. XD

Ha ha ha. But you can't just hide away in your rat hole and not see anybody! 8) Maybe we can turn our visits into a mutually productive art party, so while we are visiting, we're also getting work done. Or at least eating delicious foodstuffs!

*laughing* My closet furry and me.

You MUST come over and do mutual art with us. I'm getting more and more ideas, and I want to just keep DOING things. I don't think I'll ever aspire to be what I consider a real artist, but...I just draw cause I love to do it, and I want to be better for myself. It would be inspiring to have you around. ^.^

Eh, there's nothing which says you can't have a boring job AND do Artist's Alley type things.

As to the house, it sounds like you should probably start working on fixing what's THERE before adding new additions. Re-do the tile, clean the sinks, etc. It'll take time though...

And money is always the problem. :\

I've been getting back into the Myst fandom rather hardcore of late (mostly becuase I've suddenly become bored with Kingdom Hearts, so I go back to my childhood. or something...), and I keep lamenting that the D'ni do not exist and even if they did, their civilization was destroyed something like three hundred years ago. Their civilization was founded upon the art of writing and linguistics, and everyone simply did what they were best at. There wasn't really any money - as long as you were doing your part for society, you got what you needed. Granted, this meant things like gathering your OWN food from the various food-related Ages and usually helping with the building of your own house and furnishing of it with the help of the Architechts and Engineer's guilds, or simply inheriting it from your parents, but...

A life consisting of writing and journeying to other worlds, knowing that home was little more than a book page away? I could deal with it.

It makes the things you have to worry about in life a little less mundane, and a little more necessary. Instead of worrying about the men in suits knocking on your door cause you forgot to fill out some paperwork somewhere along the line that you didn't even know abou, you worry about where your next meal is coming from, and then take care of it. I like the cut and dry stuff better.

But we're surviving, here, and we're building, and that is...optimistic. I thought this journal was gonna be angsty, but it isn't. Its...kind of hopeful. We're at a low point now, but we've got the right building blocks. Maybe by the time you get out of college, we'll have a place you can move to worry free, if you're interested. Then we can really -talk- instead of just being separated by distance.
(Lemme know your schedule, by the way, so I know when I can call you. I've wanted to several times, but I worry I'll be interrupting.)

I am amused that even with the headpiece and the shiny jacket on... you just can't top the creepiness of E.B.
